The Motion Particle へ

As a hiragana character, the normal pronunciation of the above particle is "he." However,  is pronounced as "e" when used as a directional particle. This particle is used with motion verbs, in sentences that describe movement from one place to another:

 

今年、日本へ行くつもりです。

Kotoshi, Nihon e iku tsumori desu.

I plan on going to Japan this year.

 

子供達は今朝学校へ行きました。

Kodomo-tachi wa kesa gakkoo e ikimashita.

The children went to school this morning.
