謝罪

謝罪 = shazai = apology

謝罪する  shazai suru  = to apologize

謝罪広告 shazai kookoku = a notice of apology (in a newspaper, etc.)

In May of 2005, negotiations between North Korea and the United States were moving slowly. The sentence below is from an article that describes a slight change in the North Korean position. Note the use of shazai:

北朝鮮はこれまで、ライス米国務長官の「圧政国家」発言の撤回と謝罪や敵視政策放棄などを6カ国協議復帰の条件に掲げてきた。

Kita Choosen wa kore made, Raisu Bei-kokumu-chookan no assei kokka no hatsugen no tekkai to shazai ya tekishi seisaku hooki nado o rokkakoku kyoogi fukki no jooken ni kakagete kita.

Up to this point, North Korea had raised as conditions for the resumption of the 6-country talks the retraction of and apology for U.S. Secretary of State Rice's "tyrannical" statements, and the abandonment of hostile [U.S.] policies.
