-te ageru -て あげる



The -te ageru form describes a favor done for a person of equal or higher status:

Example 1.

私は明子さんに時計を買ってあげた。

Watashi wa Akiko-san ni tokei o katte ageta.

I bought a watch for Akiko.

Example 2.

きみは先生に何をしてあげましたか。

Kimi wa sensei ni nani o shite agemashita ka.

What did you do for the teacher?

Example 3:

田中さんに時計を貸してあげましたか。

Tanaka-san ni tokei o kashite agemashita ka?

Did you lend Mr. Tanaka your watch?
